Your social media bios are so important and your TikTok bio is no different! If you are a brand, Creator, or Influencer actively posting on TikTok without an optimized bio, then you’re missing out on a huge opportunity to grow your following. Not only will the perfect TikTok bio help you stand out, it will immediately give someone a reason to follow you and hopefully stick around to engage with your content and learn more about what you have to offer!
At Sidewalker Daily, we work with Creators to build their businesses on social media, but we also work on the brand side of things, helping companies create successful Influencer marketing campaigns. Because we’ve been helping brands find the perfect Influencers for their campaigns, we’re always looking at TikTok bios to see what someone is all about. In this post, we’re going to give you some of our best tips for how to make the perfect TikTok bio based on our experience!
After this, you’ll have some actionable tips that you can take and put into your TikTok bios right away.
1) Be Consistent In Your Branding
Because TikTok is relatively new on the scene, we see a lot of social media Creators who already post on other platforms (especially Instagram) decide to start creating on TikTok too. This is a great move to help widen your reach, but we notice one glaring mistake all the time: these Creators aren’t consistent with their branding between their social media platforms!
Obviously Instagram and TikTok are different platforms, so what happens on one doesn’t necessarily work on the other. However, certain aspects of your branding need to stay consistent from one platform to the next.
For example, you should make sure your username is the same on each of your platforms. Maybe you started your TikTok as a personal account, not really planning on associating it with your brand identity. But if you want to use both platforms to grow your Influence as a Creator, your best bet is to make sure they match (and would make sense to a follower if they saw both).
Here are the top reasons to match your username and other parts of your bio between platforms:
- You’ll be easier to find! If someone loves your Instagram account, they might search for you on TikTok. If your name is different, they may not find you.
- If you want to grow your Influence, brand recognition is important and keeping things consistent will help establish your brand for yourself and for your audience.
- You are a business, and having a clear and consistent name shows that you are professional.
2) Have A Standout TikTok Profile Pic
We probably don’t have to tell you that having a killer profile photo is an important part of branding yourself on social media. So if you want to have the perfect TikTok bio, your photo should be one of the first things you think about. A clear, quality image makes you look much more professional and it also gives some personality to your profile. Your audience is able to connect with you through your photo, so you want to have something there that gives a good impression. It also helps you stand out from a sea of accounts and maybe even stop the scroll if someone is searching TikTok and your account happens to pop in the results!
Again, we recommend using the same photo for your TikTok profile pic that you use on your Instagram and other social media platforms. You want someone who loves you on one platform to immediately recognize you on the rest of your platforms. Having the same profile picture on both makes the transition that much easier for your audience.
What are some things that make a standout TikTok profile pic?
- Up close, showing your face
- Clear, solid backgrounds—maybe a color that pops—so that it’s easier to see who you are
- Don’t be afraid to smile! Being warm and likable can make you feel more approachable as a Creator.
Social media is a very visual place; having a great profile pic is one of the quickest TikTok marketing tips we can give you!
3) Use The Right Words In Your Bio
You only have 80 characters available to write your TikTok bio, so you need to make them count! Obviously you’re not going to be able to tell people everything about yourself, so you have to find a way to clearly and succinctly explain what TikTok users can expect to see on your page.
The most successful TikTok accounts are super niche. They’ve built up a niche community by creating content that really resonates with a particular audience. So to cultivate this for yourself, the number one priority for your TikTok bio should be making it very easy for viewers to know exactly what to expect from you. Give them a reason to hit that follow button!
The last thing you’re going to want to do is a TikTok bio copy and paste. That won’t help you stand out as an Influencer and will water down your own unique personality and what makes you stand out as a Creator. Remember this as you start thinking up TikTok bio ideas..make it specific to you!
Ask yourself this: what words can I use that trigger an association with my niche? As a quick example, let’s take a look at a real Creator’s bio. Tom Walsh is a health Influencer, and that’s very apparent in his bio based on the few words he uses.
He very clearly states that when you follow him you’ll get a ton of healthy recipe ideas that actually taste good. So anyone who is on a fitness or health journey, trying to improve their nutrition, or looking for good tasting recipes will be encouraged to follow. He’s speaking directly to them!
So before you write out your official bio, take a second to think about some trigger words that you can use to showcase what you’re all about. If you need to write them down, do it! Then pull out the most important and relevant words, and find a way to work them into your bio.
4) Be Strategic With Your Link In Bio
Once you hit 1,000 followers, you’ll be given access to a clickable space right below your bio. If you have access to the link in bio feature, you want your TikTok bio to have a Call To Action driving your followers to click your link. This is especially important if you’re tying to make money on TikTok; you need to send people to the right places!
The trickiest part about the link in bio feature is figuring out what to actually put as the link. You can:
- Use a Link In Bio Tool: Since TikTok only gives you that one link spot, this can be one of the best ways to get eyes on a variety of different links.
- Link to your own website
- Link to other social media platforms
- Add an affiliate or product link
How do you know which one to use? It really comes down to your current Call to Action.
Maybe your priority is driving people to your Instagram account. Even though TikTok has a built-in Instagram icon (there’s a YouTube one too!), we’ve seen many Creators utilize the bio link to promote their Instagram account even more. Their main goal with TikTok is to grow their Instagram following, so doing this makes sense for them.
If you don’t have the link in bio yet, maybe your CTA encourages viewers to click the Instagram or YouTube icons. You can even say things like “Go to my Instagram bio to see my links!” Make sure you connect your other accounts, because even if they don’t have a link to click, there’s a chance you can get them to take action on one of those platforms, if you make it easy for them to navigate between platforms.
5) Choose A Strong CTA
Do you have a Call To Action that clearly tells someone what you want them to do next? Sometimes when it comes to marketing yourself, it feels safer and less like a sales pitch to take a more subtle route. But the truth is, many successful Influencers and Creators have seen it pay off to get straight to the point. If you don’t tell your followers what you want them to do, they’re not going to do it.
Take a look at Tom Walsh’s bio again that we mentioned before. The second thing he does well is have a strong Call To Action or CTA. He gets straight to the point, letting you know that he has a cookbook and that you can get it by clicking the link in his bio. If he didn’t include a CTA about it, he’s less likely to get people clicking on that link. They may eventually stumble upon his cookbook without it, but driving them straight to it, increases his chances of converting people to buy the book by a lot.
Also, some Influencers really focus on affiliate marketing. Having a CTA to check out an Amazon shop, or another platform with affiliate links, is the perfect way to get more affiliate traffic.
While it’s important to have a CTA in your bio it’s also OK to change that CTA when you need to. Your goal with social media is to keep it up to date and always working for you. If you’re an Influencer, Creator or Brand investing time and energy into growing your TikTok account and getting more views then you want to make sure you’re doing everything you can to make it benefit you and your business.
6) Pin The Top Row Of Content
The ability to pin the top row of content is one of the platform’s coolest features and also important to think about for TikTok marketing strategies. Creators can choose up to 3 of their favorite videos to pin to the top row of their TikTok feed. There are a few ways to go about this that are beneficial for growing your account and working with brands.
Of course, pinning allows creators to showcase some of their best work. If they have a particularly high quality video that looks great, or a video that went viral and everyone loved, they have a chance to show this off to anyone who lands on the page. Not just for followers to see, but brands too. A brand gets a quick and easy look into some of your most successful pieces of content.
The pin tool can also serve as an introductory or “get to know me” type of tool. Most TikTok Creators have hundreds of videos, so pinning 3 at the top is a great way to introduce yourself quickly. Someone can watch these videos to get to know who a Creator is and what they care about, instead of having to scroll through a ton of content to learn more.
Making The Perfect TikTok Bio
TikTok is definitely more casual than most other social media platforms and one of the best things about TikTok is that it allows people to promote a less curated version of themselves! So when it comes to crafting the perfect TikTok bio as a Creator, it’s important to find ways to reflect your personality and create a welcoming space. However, if you’re trying to make money as a Creator or grow your accounts, you still have to use the best bio optimization practices to create a TikTok bio that draws people in.
As a quick recap of this post, these are a few of the top things you can do to make your TikTok bio better right now:
1) Be consistent in your branding so that people can recognize you across platforms and to establish your brand identity.
2) Have a standout profile photo that is clear and welcoming.
3) Think about what words you can use to showcase who you really are and what your followers can expect to see, then work them into a clear and succinct bio.
4) Be strategic with your link in bio by either using a tool that lets you put multiple links or by driving followers to your main priority.
5) Choose a strong and clear Call to Action. Your followers won’t know what you want them to do unless you tell them!
