Profitable Niches For Creators
Figuring out which niche you want to create content in is a foundational step in the Influencer and Creator journey. If you want to make money in this field, it’s pretty important that you know what you want to talk about and become knowledgeable in that area. But the big question is what are the most profitable niches for Creators and how do you pick which niche you want to focus on?
At Sidewalker Daily we work with Influencers and Creators to develop their strategy and monetize their business. We also consult with brands on their Influencer campaigns. So after years of working with different brands and Influencers, we’ve really seen it all when it comes to different niches for Creators.
The thing is that as the Influencer Marketing industry grows, so does the space for Creators in almost any niche. While this is good news, it also means that figuring out your perfect niche can be even trickier than before! In this article, we’re going walk you through some of the main things to consider when you’re picking a niche and also go over 6 of the most profitable niches for Creators to give you some ideas of where to start the consideration process.
How To Pick An Influencer Niche
Whether you’re afraid of limiting yourself to a small scope of topics or you simply wish to talk about mutliple things, it can be hard to settle on a niche as you start out as an Influencer or Creator. Don’t worry though—picking a niche doesn’t have to trap you into only talking about one thing over and over again or working with brands in only one category.
It all comes down to your content and pitching strategy. When you start pitching to brands, what really matters is how you structure your pitch. With a good strategy, you can be landing the same paid brand deals as someone who is an entirely different niche than you.
Take a blender, for example. A Nutrition Influencer might work with this brand for obvious reasons—they have an audience that looks to them for advice in the kitchen.
But someone like us at Sidewalker Daily, in the Entrepreneur and Business niche, might pitch their own angle to the brand. We have an audience of busy business owners who would love to see how we make quick, nutritious smoothies with this blender when running from meeting to meeting.
It’s all in the pitch! So this should give you peace of mind when you’re narrowing down the different topics you want to consider as your niche.
Also, you need to know that the reason deciding on a niche is so important to your success as a creator is that you will cultivate a dedicated audience that will be interested in a very specific topic which is easier to get brand deals if you’re pitching influence and trying to monetize your social media presence from the start. As you grow as a Creator your content will likely evolve and that’s OK too because your audience will often times shift with you.
With this in mind, let’s go over our 5 best tips for finding the best niche for Instagram to make money.
Tip 1: Don’t Pick A Niche Just For Money
Our first tip for picking a niche that makes money to not pick a niche just because it makes money. We know that sounds counterintuitive, but here’s why:
If you want to successfully grow your business as an Influencer or Creator, and you pick a niche just because you think it’s going to make you money…you could be hurting yourself (A LOT) in the long run. Picking a niche is an important decision. You’re establishing the type of audience you want to attract and you’re going to spend a lot of time in the future trying to build that audience.
If it’s something that you don’t actually enjoy, it’s going to be really hard to keep it up long term, and there’s a really good chance that your content will come off as inauthentic.
One example we see of this from time to time is with Creators who grow their own Instagram audience and figure that they should start teaching about marketing. They’ve had success with their own account and they see other people getting a lot of attention from talking about growing on social media. But at the end of the day, they’re not even passionate about marketing, Instagram growth, or entrepreneurship, and they ultimately don’t want to spend all day every day talking about it.
We’re not saying that you shouldn’t try things or sometimes share other topics that are important to you, but if you build up an audience around a topic you are not passionate about, you will likely burn out and then potentially a lot of time, effort, and maybe even money could be wasted. Don’t create content around a niche just because you saw other people doing it.
The best niche for Instagram to make money isn’t going to be the same for everyone!
Tip 2: Pick Something You Want To Talk About
So instead of diving head first into a niche simply because you’ve seen others profit from it, turn to topics that you actually want to talk about. (And we mean talk about a lot.) You want your Creator niche to be something that makes sense for you.
Maybe you turn to:
- Your skillset
- Your credibility (degrees or experience)
- Topics that make you happy
If the niche checks off one of these boxes and is something that you can monetize, then you just might just have a winner!
Tip 3: Determine If The Niche Can Be Monetized
How exactly do you know that a niche is able to be monetized? We get asked this question a lot by Creators and Influencers who are in the beginning stages of their journey, and there is one major question that we tell them to ask:
Is there a need for your niche?
Head over to Google and look something up in the niche you’re considering. If there are zero results about it, that could be a sign that there isn’t a lot of interest in the topic and that it’s not going to be a profitable niche. While you’ll build an audience as you go, it’s still important to know if there are going to be people who have an actual need for your content.
A pro tip we learned from a Creator we worked with is to Search around on Facebook. If there’s a Facebook Group about your topic or about a topic related to your idea, chances are that there’s a group of people in the world who will pay attention to what you have to say.
If your research does produce limited results, don’t let that completely discourage you! Especially if you’re in an emerging space—like we were at Sidewalker Daily all those years ago when we started our business in 2015. When we first started, Influencer marketing was very new and many of the topics we discussed—Influencer rates, media kits, etc.—did not exist.
It’s obvious now that there was a need for this information; it was the lack of discussion around the topic combined with our knowledge and prediction that content Creation going to be huge that helped us stay the course and be confident in the content we were creating for our community of Influencers and Creators.
Tip 4: Think About Evergreen Topics
The most profitable niches for Creators are evergreen topics. If you’re not familiar with this term, “evergreen” refers to something that pretty much never goes away. It has different meanings in different contexts, but what we’re talking about here is picking a niche that is always going to have some interest.
Categories such as:
- Fitness
- Beauty
- Food and Cooking
- Making money online
are always going to be around. From now until the end of time, you’re going to have topics to talk about if you pick one of these niches. There’s an interest and a need for content in each of these spaces that we can safely assume is here to stay.
The real key to making money with these popular niches is finding ways to stand out as an Influencer in those niches, which we’re going to talk about next.
Tip 5: Pick a “sub-niche” within your creator niche
Picking an evergreen niche is essential for monetizing as an Influencer or Creator, but it’s also really important that you are able to “sub-niche.” This will help you stand out among the other Influencers and Creators in your niche.
Say the route you choose is Food. Well, food for who? Who are you talking to? Who is your target audience?
Determining your sub-niche will actually help you build an audience because you’re providing specific value to a consumer that has a specific problem.
Instead of speaking to everyone, you’re speaking directly to someone who will benefit from your content, feel a connection to you, and want to listen to what you have to say. As an example, here are some culinary sub-niche ideas:
- Food for moms cooking for toddlers
- Vegan meal ideas
- Nutrition tips and meals for weight loss
Pick a niche that’s evergreen in the sense that it’s needed, but also figure out who you’re talking to within that niche because this will make a world of a difference for planning your content and growing your audience.
6 Profitable Niches For Creators
Now that we’ve talked about how to narrow in and figure out your niche, we want to go over a few or the most profitable niches to give you some ideas.
We can give you a list of profitable niches for Creators on Instagram, but what it’s really going to come down to is two things:
1) what you actually want to talk about
2) which monetization strategy you want to utilize.
When these two pieces link up, you’ll put yourself in a position to start making money online.
To get you started, here are some of the most profitable niches for Creators for you to consider:
1) Travel
The travel industry is a popular niche for Bloggers, Influencers, and Creators.
Travel is something that people always will do and always will love. People love to consume travel content to see places they’ve never been or get ideas for planning their own trips.
In terms of monetizing this niche, brand partnerships with not just products, but also hotels and places is a popular choice for Influencers in this industry. Content creation with photoshoots and video shoots is common too!
2) Fitness & Health
While this space is evergreen, if you want to create content in the Fitness space you need to have a clear understanding of your “why.” Who is the ideal follower that you’re trying to attract?
There are all kinds of popular Wellness topics; Wellness was definitely one of the fastest growing Instagram niches for a long time. This means that there are a lot of people creating content in this niche. So to really stand out, you want to have a true message to focus your content around and focus on that.
Making money in this niche can look so many different ways—coaching and courses, brand partnerships, and more.
3) Entrepreneurship & finance
Anything that has to do with helping people build their business or make money can be a very profitable niche. The “make money online” and “work for yourself” trend only continues to grow as the Influencer and Creator industry expands, which is why there is a lot of need for content that helps people do this themselves.
When it comes to monetizing your content, this niche is a good option because it is often very product-focused. Creators can sell courses or coach others on how to start their own business, but they also can rely on brand partnerships or affiliates with brands that make life easier for entrepreneurs.
4) Beauty & Fashion
When you think of Bloggers, both Beauty and Fashion probably come to mind right away. There’s a reason that these topics have been popular with Influencers and Creators for so long! Not only is there always something new to share in the Fashion or Beauty industries, there’s obviously a need for brand partnerships to spread trendy ideas and new products.
The Beauty and Fashion Creators we work with at Sidewalker Daily often see a lot of success on the pitching to brands side of their business because they’re able to go after brands that have budgets.
5) The Pet Industry
That’s right! If you’re obsessed with your dog and that’s what you really want to share with the world, there might be a place for you to monetize that passion as a Creator.
Pet care is a huge topic of interest to a large number of people and there’s always something to talk about. We’re seeing pet Creators use many different strategies to make this a profitable niche, such as brand partnerships with pet products, creating courses, and even selling their own swag.
6) Professional Careers
We’re adding this to our list of profitable niches for Creators because it really drives home the point that anything can be a profitable niche. All you need to do is make sure that there is a community or an interest surrounding the topic—so one place to turn to is your career!
We’ve worked with Creators who are passionate about what they do and want to create content around that lifestyle. For example, one of our Creators is a nurse and uses this to build and engage her audience. Doing so has landed her paid partnerships and even got her to 5 figure months as a Creator.
Right here is a prime example of a niche that has a lot of interest, but isn’t necessarily a niche that comes to mind at first. Any niche can be made profitable because brands want to access your audience—especially if that audience is there because they trust your authority on a subject and value what you have to say.
