5 Travel Quotes That Need To Stay In 2016

Attention all you wanderlust seekers: let’s make a pact to get rid of all the overused travel quotes and start fresh. You in? Don’t get us wrong, we’re all about travel inspo and all but honestly, the whole travel quote phenomenon has gotten out of control! I mean, how many times can we hear “Not all those who wander are lost.” We’ve got our list of 5 travel quotes that need to be retired for good. Have more? Leave them in the comments for a good laugh!

1. “I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list.” – Susan Sontag

Travel Quotes

Susan, Susan, Susan – look what you’ve started. Sure, we all have hopes of traveling to all 214 countries in this world, but the reality of life is that we’ll have to make tough decisions on which sights to actually see. And that’s where your good ol’ bucket list comes in nice & handy. Write down your top 20 and call it a day. It’s one thing to have your head in the clouds, it’s another to set yourself up to fail..mmkay?

2. “Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing at all.” – Helen Keller

Travel Quotes

Helen Keller’s our girl but let’s call a spade a spade. This just isn’t true. Life can be a daring adventure but it can also be super lame, confusing and flat out boring. Didn’t she have to take calculus in high school – no daring adventure there girlfriend. All jokes aside, we think what makes life adventurous is that these moments happen in spurts, which makes you appreciate them that much more. So cheers to the spurts of adventure that pop up along our journey and keep life interesting.

3. “The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” – St. Augustine

Travel Quotes

We’re not hating on this quote because we think it’s true, deep and appreciate St. Augustine’s metaphoric interpretation.  Our issue with this travel propaganda isn’t the quote itself, but the amount of times we’ve read it over the interwebs. It’s just like your favorite song on the radio. The more you listen to it, the worse it becomes. So maybe this one can make a comeback, but my gut is telling me it’s damaged goods and off to the quote retirement center. Ciao ciao!

4. “Not all those who wander are lost.” – J.R.R. Tolkien

Travel Quotes

Ok perhaps a small fraction of those who wander aren’t really lost – but lets face it, most of us are lost and still lost (and that’s ok!) Isn’t the purpose of traveling to help find yourself? But even then, it’s a life-long process and even the most creative and successful people in this world admit that it’s a journey (not a destination). So say it with us, LOST & PROUD!

5. “Collect Moments. Not Things”

Travel Quotes

Correction: Collect moments AND things. Why not both? Collect that memory of you walking under the Eiffel Tower, but hey – some things you won’t find back home. Those little souvenirs are totally useful when you’re suffering from the post-travel blues and need something to remind you of the better days…especially while you’re staring at your excel document on Monday morning at work.
